About the project

Brasal Refrigerantes, the largest Coca-Cola distributor in Brasília and surrounding areas, introduced Smart Fridges into residential condominiums to modernize the vending experience. These smart fridges allow users to purchase products via an app, but the previous system had several issues:

Key problems included:

  • Difficulty scanning QR codes to unlock the fridge.
  • Limited payment options (credit cards only).
  • Frequent app crashes and performance issues on most mobile devices.
  • Lack of security features, which allowed users to bypass the system and exploit the fridge's inventory.

Our goal was to redesign the app, improve its performance, and make the experience smoother, safer, and more intuitive.

The solution

To solve the issues, we redesigned the Coca-Cola Smart Fridge app with a focus on user experience and functionality.

The updated app now includes multiple payment methods such as credit cards and digital wallets, smoother navigation, and real-time feedback to the user during the purchase process. We improved the QR code scanning process, reduced app crashes, and introduced stronger security measures to ensure the fridge locks after each transaction. Additionally, we added notifications to remind users when the fridge needs to be refilled and promotional offers to incentivize regular use.

  • Expanded Payment Options: Introduced multiple payment methods including digital wallets, bank transfers, and loyalty points, in addition to credit cards.
  • Enhanced Security: Improved the system’s tracking capabilities to ensure users could only take the products they paid for. The app now sends real-time notifications and records every interaction with the fridge.
  • Improved User Journey: The app was redesigned with a focus on simplifying the steps needed to make a purchase, providing users with clear feedback at every stage of the process.
  • Technical Optimizations: Addressed API issues, improved compatibility with various devices, and resolved bugs that led to frequent crashes. The QR code scanning functionality was significantly improved.

    While the project is still in the development phase, early usability tests have shown promising results:
